About

Eastern European Balkan Bistro

Saro is a Bosnian  influenced Bistro that celebrates the eclectic seasonal cuisine of culinary treasures left by two long lost empires – The Austro–Hungarian empire & the Ottoman empire. The idea behind Saro is sharing that Eastern–European warmth with New-Yorkers, offering a cuisine which is new by recreating the old. Chef and Owner Eran Elhalal often simply puts it as: “Comfort food you did not get to grow up eating”.

Chef Eran Elhalal

Raised on his Bosnian  grandmother’s food, Saro (grandma Sara’s nickname) is a labor of love for Chef Eran Elhalal. Following several years working in top Tel-Aviv restaurants, Eran attended the C.I.A (Culinary Institute of America), of which he is an honored graduate. Eran has since opened and served as Executive Chef of Manhattan’s Unwined Gastro pub and later BarVespa.
